Why does it seem like people are mumbling?

Most hearing losses begin with losing the ability to hear the soft high frequency sounds. Because consonants fall in this range, a person with even a mild hearing loss will feel like people are mumbling.

Do I need a doctor's referral to come for a hearing evaluation?

No.

Why do hearing aids cost so much?

The easy answer is simple economics: The ratio of research and development investment to the number of devices sold is high, which contributes to a higher price for the customer. But consider this: at Campbell River Hearing Centre, the cost of your hearing aids also includes listening enhancement therapy and unlimited follow-up appointments and hearing tests. When averaged over a minimum hearing aid lifespan of five years, they generally come in at about $60/month – a reasonable investment for restored hearing.

I thought that hearing aids would help me hear better in background noise. Why am I still having problems?

Understanding conversations over background noise is the most common complaint of people with hearing loss. In most cases, this problem can be greatly reduced, or even eliminated, with a properly fitted hearing aid and additional listening enhancement therapy. If problems persist, we can adjust the amplification of certain sounds or make other advanced adjustments to reduce background noise significantly. If there’s ever anything bugging you about your hearing aids – anything – bring them in and we’ll adjust them for you at no extra cost.

Are hearing aids or any of your services covered by BC Medical (MSP)?
